It's Getting Closer...

The talk around our house lately has been about babies. We are so excited for our own, but have also been excited to find out that more family is expecting, and strangely what seems like every celebrity as well. As we discuss what we think having a newborn will be like, I'm starting to realize that my view is very (very) optimistic. I am excited for all the things that I associate with having a brand new little one. Most specifically getting to come home for the first time as a family, having family around when we come home, bundling the baby in blankets....etc.
I want to know what the more realistic view is. What are the unexpectedly fun things new parents experience? What are the surprising (not fun) moments?
Steven has decided that the best way to deal with middle of the night baby situations is to put a fresh plate of cookies in the baby's room each night. So that when it's his turn he's happy about waking up and going in the baby's room. Awesome.
So, as you can see, we are trying to think of the future.
Any input?

One thing that I love about having a baby is that first day or two in the hospital. It always seems exciting to kind of be shut away from everything for a while, to just be with baby and husband. To get to know each other. I guess most people don't think being in the hospital is exciting, but I love that first little while before having to go back to life. Plus having visitors is fun, too. Also, Russell and I both love having the newborn sleep on his/her tummy on our chest. It is so fun to feel the little bundle right next to you. So fun!

P.S. I love the cookie idea, and I love hearing Steve's quirky little comments and stories. They always make me laugh!

That's so cute about the baby sleeping...that is something I am really looking forward to, when the baby is sleeping and I can put my hand on their little butt. Weird, I know...

Steven's just excited to get a playmate...cause every thing you ever write about him sounds like he never really left his childhood!

(Oh, and I have a serious middle of the night eating problem, so your cookies would be heaven on earth for me...tell Steven they will help me go back to sleep!)

Realistically...some of the greatest joys of parenthood are when your little bundle of joy loudly loads his diaper in the middle of Relief Society, or when he tries giving you a kiss and bites your lip. My ultimate favorite, though, is when me and Justin are hugging and Blake runs up to us to get in on the action. That is the greatest!

I love the way they sleep with their arms above their heads, and the sighing noises and faces they make when they are asleep. Their bums, their ears, the back of their necks - all so soft!
BTW - it sounds a lot like Steven is going for Saint-hood or something. Saint Nicholas started out that way - just taking a shift and wanting to be rewarded with cookies... hmmm.

Well I don't have any personal baby stories I can share but I LOVE your hubby's cookie idea, BRILLIANT! And trust you to comment on the celebrity baby boom, lol...that's my Cassie. And I totally agree with Jackie, I AM DYING when I read your Steven stories. You two are very lucky to have found each other, and obviously, to have figured out that you DID find each other. Love you both. I mean all. =0) Gins

Okay - I'm sitting here trying to think of loving soft moments with my babies only to hear crying in the other room from Gray because he just took a line drive to the face with a baseball. Of course, hit by his brother. The cutest part is that Gray had his mitt on and was trying his best to catch it. Oh the joy of little boys. Okay - moments that I love - when they snuggle up to you during sleep and make little noises. Moments that I could do without - smelly spitup, nursing in public restroom stalls. Neither are all that enjoyable for me. But - the rewards far outweigh those little gross moments. And for those mothers of boys - the moment they pee on you :)
